Workshop Details

In this full-day workshop participants will develop their assessment design skills, understand the qualities of good assessment, critically analyse case studies, and apply those qualities to assessing the learning outcomes in their teaching.

Assessment is an essential part of learning; it determines whether or not educational outcomes for students are being met.  Teachers in tertiary education need to have a comprehensive understanding of assessment and its framework. This includes interpretation and application of standards, and methods for assessment design covering a range of contexts for diverse learners.

Who should attend?

This workshop will be of interest to new educators,  professional development staff and those interested in enhancing skills related to assessment.

Working with John Delany, workshop participants will develop their assessment design skills, use NZQA's "Qualities of Assessment" to critically analyse case studies, and apply those qualities to assessing the learning outcomes in their teaching.  As a result, their students will undertake valid, reliable, flexible and fair assessments.
