Course description

This online course explores key considerations for designing effective assessments:

  • What does good assessment look like?
  • Am I assessing what I want my students to learn?
  • Are my students supported to learn what I want them to learn?

Who is this course for?

The course is relevant to teachers/developers assessing either traditional or online courses.

Course structure

We've structured the course into three weeks:

Week one: BEFORE the Zoom webinar

To get the most out of your time, we've created a set of activities for you to complete prior to the video conference. The focus of these activities is on reflecting on the assessment experience for you and your learners.

Week two: DURING the Zoom webinar

The video conference underpins your learning in this course. It is set up to let you explore your learning with colleagues and the course facilitator.

Week three: AFTER the Zoom webinar

In the last week, there will be online discussion and sharing of ideas to help you consolidate your learning.

How you'll learn

The course uses the iQualify learning management system.

You may find it helpful to take a few minutes to explore how to navigate iQualify, particularly the 'notes' function which allows you to keep your own digital notes as you work through the material.

Sharing ideas is an important part of learning, so you should make full use of the reflection and online discussion opportunities built into the learning activities.

What you'll learn

The following concepts will be covered:

  • What good assessment looks like
  • Assessing what I want my students to learn
  • Supporting students to learn what I want them to learn.
