$50 + GST RegisterCreating the ‘write’ environment is much more than simply teaching basic writing skills. It’s about supporting learners to develop a positive belief in themselves as writers and find their writing voice. This workshop is designed to equip educators with a good understanding of the writing process and some key aspects of writing instruction, which will foster writing success for learners.
Workshop level
This is a Level 1 (introductory) workshop. No prior knowledge is required.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for educators who are looking to enhance their understanding of how to support learners in their writing development.
Topics covered
- The writing process.
- Lower-order and higher-order writing skills.
- Assessing learners’ writing.
- Strategies to support writing.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- describe the components that make up skilled writing
- use assessment and results to inform teaching of writing
- locate suitable writing activities
- teach some basic writing strategies.
Facilitator
Dr Janet McHardy - an experienced teacher, and advisor in adult literacy and numeracy, and vocational educational.
Free self-directed content
In addition to the live workshop, participants will have access to self-directed content available through the Ako Aotearoa LNAAT Educator Pathway on Pathways Awarua. This Pathway is currently under development. This complementary content will allow you to explore the topic in greater depth at your own pace and in your own time, reinforcing the practical skills and knowledge gained during the workshop.
