Course details

This course includes two online video conferences, and an optional four-week online module. The self-paced module is in the form of a community of professional learning and takes a minimum of 1-2 hours of engagement per week.

Explore effective reading strategies to transform your learners from passive to active readers. Comprehension is the essence of reading and a tool for lifelong learning. Most of us need to make meaning from text every single day. In doing so we use strategies without even being aware of it.

Learning outcomes

In the video conferences and the follow-up online module you will learn:

  • what reading comprehension strategies you can teach
  • how you can teach them
  • why reading comprehension is a critical skill for learners
  • how cultural values can be integrated into teaching reading comprehension.

You will have the opportunity to practise teaching the strategies and refine your approach.

Participants can earn Ako Aotearoa digital badges as evidence of participation and completion of course requirements.

Who is this course for?
