Course outline

This online course is designed to support Māori cultural awareness and practice of the Māori learning/ teaching methodology of Ako (learn-teach). Engage in the six multi-media kōwae/ modules of work in your own time and place. Complete the assessment task (based on reflective practice of an aspect of your work practice) to earn a digital badge.

Learning outcomes

After participating in this course, participants can expect to have:

  1. Worked through the multi-media activities in the four Ako modules
  2. Completed and submitted the assessment task.

Upon successful completion of the online interactive activities, the participant will submit an assessment task for marking by an assessor to qualify for a digital badge.

Who is this course for?

Practitioners and educators with some knowledge of the concept of 'Ako' in a tertiary teaching/learning context. Basic understanding of te reo Māori would be an advantage.

Dr Mei Winitana, Kaiwhakahaere Māori/ Manager of Māori Cultural Capability at Ako Aotearoa, manages the series. Mei has extensive experience in tertiary education, in training and development and workshop facilitation.

Liza Kohunui is the talented assessor of these Self-directed courses. She brings an extensive background in tertiary evaluation and quality assurance and workshop facilitation.
