Build on your teaching strategies from our Introduction to the Pacific Cultural Centeredness Pathway course to understand how to utilise the learning va or sacred space between educator and Pacific learner.

Course outline
This course includes two online workshops, and an optional, four-week, facilitated support module. The module takes a minimum of 1-2 hours of engagement per week.
Participants will have the opportunity to practise and reflect on the new learning and exchange experiences and ideas with each other and the facilitator.
Topics covered
The course covers:
- the unique history, language, migration story, cultural and social structure of seven Pacific cultures
- a range of approaches to engaging with the Pacific Island learner in a way that makes them the centre of engaging and learning
- opportunities for practice and reflection on the new learning and to exchange experiences and ideas with other participants and the facilitator.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- apply Pacific cultural centredness to teaching and/or organisational practice
- implement strategies to engage Pacific learners
- pronounce Pacific words and phrases clearly
- incorporate cultural values in your teaching practice.

About the facilitators
Pale Sauni
Pale Sauni is a senior Pacific Samoan educator who has been delivering workshops on financial wellbeing for over 15 years. He has critical insights on how we can engage with our Pacific learning communities by and through the understanding of how money works. Pale will facilitate a discussion around how tools and strategies can unlock learning success.
Saylene Ulberg
Saylene Ulberg has an adult education teaching background and is currently completing a Music degree. Saylene is an extremely capable facilitator in the area of cultural centred pathways bringing a freshness to greetings, pronunciation and talanoa. Saylene lives her life based on Pacific values and she will show how these values really matter in terms of engaging Pacific learners.
