This professional development workshop offers a brief visual history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi for beginners. The workshop content covers several aspects of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand: the historical context before Te Tiriti; the Articles and signing of Te Tiriti itself; events after Te Tiriti; Te Tiriti today; and what Te Tiriti means for tertiary practitioners and educators.

The intention is that by learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, New Zealanders will be more knowledgeable of the relationship between the Māori and non-Māori Treaty partners.

Who is this course for?

For those Tauiwi (who are descendants of original Pākehā settlers with little previous knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi).

While this workshop is targeted at practitioners and educators in the tertiary sector, it is also pertinent to anyone who seeks to gain a better understanding of the bicultural nature of our country, and of tertiary education sector practices.

In-house workshops can be customised to three separate types of audiences:

  1. Tangata Whenua (Māori)
  2. Tauiwi (Descendants of original Pākehā settlers)
  3. Tauiwi (New New Zealanders).
