About the workshops
Take charge of your digital security – join us to build stronger defences and ensure a safer online environment for both you and your learners!
Workshop 1 | Digital literacy | The importance of cyber security in education
This workshop introduces educators to the growing importance of cyber security within the education sector. You’ll explore the current cyber threat landscape, including common attacks like phishing, ransomware, malware and data breaches, which are becoming more prevalent in tertiary organisations.
Workshop 2 | Digital literacy | Strengthening passwords and managing authentication
In this workshop you’ll learn how to create and manage strong, unique passwords for all your accounts. You will explore password management tools and be introduced to Two-Factor / Multi-Factor Authentication (2FA/MFA) and how it adds an extra layer of security to their accounts. You will also learn how Single Sign-On (SSO) allows users to log into multiple websites or services using a single set of credentials, improving convenience and security.
Workshop 3 | Digital literacy | Phishing and social engineering threats
This workshop will help you identify and avoid phishing attempts, including emails that attempt to steal sensitive information. Participants will review real-world examples of phishing emails and explore practical strategies for verifying the authenticity of emails and links.
You’ll also delve into the tactics of social engineering, where attackers manipulate individuals into revealing confidential information, and learn how to prevent falling victim to these techniques.
Workshop 4 | Digital literacy | Data privacy, device security, and incident response
In this workshop you will be introduced to the best practices for protecting sensitive learner data and securing their devices against cyber threats. You’ll explore how to safely store and share sensitive information using encryption and cloud services, and how to secure your devices through strong passwords, encryption, software updates and the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
You’ll also learn how to respond effectively to a data breach or cyber-attack, ensuring minimal damage and fast recovery.
Who are these workshops for?
These workshops are designed for educators across all disciplines, including those involved in online teaching, managing digital platforms, or handling student data. They also cater to educators with a general interest in cyber security who want to upskill and enhance their understanding of digital threats and protection strategies.
