Course outline

This online course is designed to support Māori cultural awareness and practice of the Māori value, practice and learning/ teaching methodology of Manaakitanga (care + consideration). Engage in the three multi-media kōwae/ modules of work in your own time and place. Complete the assessment task (based on reflective practice of an aspect of your work practice) to earn a digital badge.

Learning outcomes

After participating in this course, participants can expect to:

  1. Gain a better understanding of and ability to apply Māori learning and teaching methodologies, especially those relating to 'Manaakitanga'.
  2. Receive an Ako Aotearoa digital badge for successful completion of the assessment task.

Who is this course for?

Practitioners and educators with some knowledge of the concept of 'Manaakitanga' in a tertiary teaching/learning context. Basic understanding of te reo Māori would be an advantage.

Dr Mei Winitana, Kaiwhakahaere Māori/ Manager of Māori Cultural Capability at Ako Aotearoa, manages the series. Mei has extensive experience in tertiary education, in training and development and workshop facilitation.
