This self-directed online course is designed to support the application of the Māori value manaakitanga (care + consideration, enhancing the mana of other people) to enrich both teaching practice and interpersonal working relationships.
Engage in the multi-media kōwae/ modules of work in your own time and place, with the support of an experienced Māori cultural coach.
This course can be completed in approximately 10 hours of self-directed online learning. The required completion time is 6 weeks from time of registration. Cultural coaching is included in this time. A reflective practice task is completed at the end of the course that will reward you with a digital badge.
Who is this course for?
Educators in a tertiary education context and other workplace practitioners with some knowledge of the concept of manaakitanga. A basic-medium understanding of te reo Māori would be an advantage.
Topics covered:
- The link between mana and manaakitanga
- Manaakitanga and building positive relationships
- Manaakitanga and the Tapa Toru Framework (The Professional Standards Framework)
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will have:
- Gained some deeper insights about manaakitanga as both a traditional Māori philosophy and a learning and teaching methodology; and as it relates to your practice and work context
- Participated in some multi-media activities relating to manaakitanga
- Engaged in some thought provokers and refined your thinking related to manaakitanga in your workplace practice.
