Creating powerful learning experiences

Dr Joseph Aziz is a Senior Lecturer, Healthcare at Unitec.

Joseph has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to teaching that makes a difference for the delivery of anatomy and physiology, radiology, and clinical anatomy programmes at Unitec. Working with a discipline that is difficult for many students to grasp, he has developed interactive approaches to dramatically enhance learning outcomes and aptitude in clinical settings.

Amongst the many innovations he has introduced to his courses are the routine use of ultrasound equipment in class to teach anatomy replacing reliance on textbook diagrams. He also introduced team-based learning to better prepare students for their clinical careers and the exam blueprint system turns assessments into powerful learning activities.

One student attests, "Joseph is very knowledgeable and helpful during the ultrasound sessions. His guidance makes the learning process smoother and more effective”.

Joseph also helped medical imaging students overcome pivotal learning challenges by scaffolding carefully designed and research-based activities around different learning needs and preferences.

The success of Joseph’s innovative approaches is widely attested to by students, colleagues, and clinical professionals alike, and has gained local and international recognition. His Head of School describes his collaborative approach, “As a colleague, he is fully supportive of the team, working closely to ensure their success.”
