Update on Ako Aotearoa Knowledge Centre resources
Ako Aotearoa was funded by the Tertiary Education Commission from 2007 to 2025 to support Aotearoa New Zealand’s tertiary education sector in building educational capability and improving outcomes for learners. For 18 years, evidence-based projects and research have been central to Ako Aotearoa’s work.
Ako Aotearoa worked alongside tertiary education organisations, government agencies, industry partners and workplaces to support evidence-based change projects with the potential to benefit learners. Through a range of funding streams, Ako Aotearoa invested approximately $11.5 million in co-funded projects across the tertiary sector.
Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University, as host of Ako Aotearoa, has been working with the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to support the long-term availability and integrity of Ako Aotearoa resources beyond 2026. This work is intended to ensure the sector continues to have access to these free resources and reports. In the coming months, resources currently available through the Ako Aotearoa Knowledge Centre will be transferred to a new Massey University-hosted repository. This transition will help ensure key outputs, including co-funded research and teaching resources, remain freely available to the tertiary sector and that the Ako Aotearoa legacy continues to support educators and learners.
Please note, the www.ako.ac.nz address will remain unchanged and will automatically redirect to the new Massey-hosted site.
At the same time, the collection of key Language, Literacy and Numeracy resources, including the Learning Progressions resources, will move to the TEC website. This change supports TEC’s wider stewardship role in strengthening literacy and numeracy across Aotearoa New Zealand’s tertiary education system. TEC already provides the knowledge base and support resources for the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT).
This work is expected to be completed towards the end of August 2026. You will be informed once completed.
