His new role is central to a new strategic direction for our organisation and is framed around the development of professional standards for tertiary teaching and pathways to accreditation and qualification. A central aspect of John’s role will be to develop networks of professional learning across the tertiary sector.
John worked most recently at the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Massey University Wellington, where he advised on teaching, assessment and curriculum development.
He has worked at universities in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Victoria University in Wellington. At the Wellington based Correspondence School (now known as Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu), he was the Multimedia Coordinator within the Media Services unit.
A key focus of many of his past roles was exploring how technology provides opportunities for learners and we are eager to see this applied to our work.
John has collaborated on various projects including two Ako Aotearoa National Project Funded projects on engagement strategies in blended learning and building an evidence-base for teaching and learning design.
He values working with colleagues and learning more about how technology helps to engage students. John is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
We are delighted that John will be bring a valuable range of skills and experience to Ako Aotearoa and look forward to updating you on his future work with us.
