Mānawatia a Matariki! Celebrate Matariki!

22 June 2022 Māori learner success, Strategic Leadership and Change

Ako Aotearoa joins the nation in marking the rising of Matariki. We do this firstly, by farewelling those beloved family members and friends who passed away in the past year. 'Kua whetūrangitia nei koutou, nōreira haere atu rā! Your spirits have risen as stars into the heavens, so farewell unto you!'

Secondly, we launch our new Te Pātaka Mātauranga (Storehouse of Māori Knowledge) at this time, (on Thursday 23 June 2022 at 10am) as part of our celebratory 'feast', in our case, of resources we currently host on our website which itself will be significantly refreshed and rejuvenated by this significant addition. The timing is deliberate as the conceptual design of the Pātaka was inspired by the narrative of Tāwhaki climbing up to Ranginui (Sky Father) to fetch knowledge which he brought back to mankind here on Papatūānuku (Mother Earth).

The Pātaka provides easy access to our multitude of Māori-based resources (research, professional development activities, and events) which will help educators and learners in fulfilling the third aspect of Matariki which is to plan and look forward to the future by being better informed on Mātauranga Māori (Māori Knowledge).

We invite you to explore Te Pataka, share with others and provide us with your feedback at: info@ako.ac.nz so we can continue to improve how we provide this content to everyone.
