The Ako Aotearoa team is delighted to share the Executive Summary of findings, feedback and recommendations from our strategic consultation with the sector. Based upon three key areas - Thought leadership, Collaboration and Teaching excellence - the summary synthesises common issues and themes identified by staff working at a range of roles and levels across the sector. The information was gathered through strategic one-to-one interviews, a national survey and regional forum sessions.
Four final recommendations around the following topics are included:
- Resourcing and policy
- Advocacy and sector voice
- Frameworks with flexibility
- Cultural commitments.
The report also provides consolidated recommendations that will be of value to Tertiary Education Organisations.
In addition, further guidance is outlined for the Tertiary Education Commission around:
- Updating funding and performance metrics to better reflect teaching quality
- Prioritising funding for collaboration and innovation
- Maintaining sector advocacy and coordination
This consultation process has demonstrated that despite, or perhaps because of, the current challenges for the sector and the demise of Ako Aotearoa at the end of this year, teaching excellence, collaboration and thought leadership remain vital to the health of the tertiary sector into the future.
