Project leader Nasser Giacaman, Piata Allen, and Raina Song gave a presentation about their project at the Ranga Auaha Ako (University of Auckland’s Education Office) Research Hui in October 2024.

This video presents Co-Thinker, an AI-driven conversational app they have been developing.

Co-Thinker is designed to help students engage more deeply with their learning material by providing a conversational partner to help them reflect on their learning and engage in role-reversal scenarios (i.e., the student "teaches" the AI). The team introduce the key principles underlying the app's design, show its key features, and discuss the results of user experiences so far.

The efforts to expand Co-Thinker's capabilities have been supported by a 2024 Ako Aotearoa Research and Innovation Agenda (AARIA) grant, which will help them advance this educational tool for other courses and disciplines. The team also discuss plans for the future, including developing new types of assessments and exploring how Co-Thinker could be used in te reo Māori.
