Project Details
A one-year project, completed in 2009, to collect a suite of on-line audio-visual resources for the provision of academic and learning support for Māori post-graduate students. A collaboration of Massey University, Victoria University of Wellington and Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
Aims:
The main aims of the project were to:
- develop a portal for the provision of academic and learning support for Māori doctoral students
- provide audio-visual information on the doctoral process, administration, writing a thesis, methodology, ethics, and the effective use of technology
- identify additional resources for expansion of the portal which could enhance its capacity to support Māori doctoral students
- promote the portal and the resources through a weekly panui to Māori staff and students.
Methodology:
The project methodology involved:
- a collaborative approach between three tertiary institutions
- drawing upon interview-based research techniques to identify areas for expansion of the portal
- seeking feedback from staff and students in order to produce a suite of resources which responds closely to the learning support needs of Māori doctoral students.

The key recommendation from the project was:
Resource Portal open to all Māori post-graduate students | This Resource Portal provides support and information for Māori post-graduate students. It is hosted by Massey University, but is open to all Māori students. The Portal contains a suite of audiovisual information on Māori research, ethics, administration, writing, and the effective use of support technology. The portal will be updated regularly by the MAI-Central Coordinator. We welcome feedback on what information would be useful to you.
The project is supported by AKO Aotearoa and is part of a collaboration between Massey University, Te Wananga o Raukawa, and Victoria University.
