Emeritus Professor Whatarangi Winiata – Tuia Te Ako 2010

Māori learner success
Published: 12 August 2010

Emeritus Professor Whatarangi Winiata's Te Kauhau Matua/Keynote Address from Tuia Te Ako 2010.

The survival of Māori as a distinct group in the global cultural mosaic is not guaranteed. The saying "Te kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea" recognises this. Educators of Māori at the tertiary level are faced with the challenge of preparing their students to contribute to the fulfilment of the survival task. The content of educational studies and of whakatupu mātauranga at tertiary level will, increasingly, reflect the imperative of managing life as Māori.
