Workshop Details

About the workshop

This in-house workshop introduces participants to the role, function and possibilities of incorporating self-assessment approaches in tertiary and industry professional learning and development courses. International and local research shows self-assessment is a complex and difficult process, but when used successfully in tertiary education programmes, self-assessment develops learners’ metacognitive and self-regulation skills, and can enable a sustainable form of assessment that supports learning beyond the confines of a course.

Working with facilitator Roseanna Bourke, senior lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington, participants will explore the research and practical applications for introducing self-assessment in tertiary programmes, including introducing student-led criteria development. The workshop builds on Roseanna’s Ako Aotearoa-funded project Using self-assessment in tertiary education.
