Project Details

A project due to be completed in 2019, being undertaken by University of Canterbury, is the fifth phase of a six-phase longitudinal project following a self-selected cohort of law students. The intended output of the full longitudinal project is the development of a law student profile to inform the teaching and learning of undergraduate law programmes at New Zealand universities.

Aims:

The main aims of the project are to:

  • produce law graduates who have the skills and knowledge necessary for them to succeed in the work place in the careers that they wish to pursue
  • produce law graduates who are work-ready for employers.

Methodology:

The project methodology will involve:

  • an online survey of the project cohort from the Universities of Canterbury, Waikato, Auckland and Victoria
  • data being collected from final year law students on their law school experiences, feelings of preparedness to join the work force and feelings of wellbeing
  • data being collected from law graduates on their experiences in the workforce and their reflections on their time at law school.
