Creating the ‘write’ environment is much more than simply teaching basic writing skills. It’s about supporting learners to develop a positive belief in themselves as writers and find their writing voice. This workshop is designed to equip educators with a good understanding of the writing process and some key aspects of writing instruction, which will foster writing success for learners.

This is a Level 1 (introductory) workshop. No prior knowledge is required.

This workshop is for educators who are looking to enhance their understanding of how to support learners in their writing development.

• The writing process. 
• Lower-order and higher-order writing skills. 
• Assessing learners’ writing. 
• Strategies to support writing.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

• describe the components that make up skilled writing 
• use assessment and results to inform teaching of writing 
• locate suitable writing activities  
• teach some basic writing strategies.
