Many organisations choose to use the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) to assess their learners. However, the truth is, very few are getting the full use of the tool to inform educators about their learners’ strengths and needs, and how this can help design a learning plan. The LNAAT has a range of features, tools and links to resources that many educators are unaware of.

This workshop explores the LNAAT in the context of supporting learners’ reading skills. Specifically, it covers how to interpret a learner’s assessment results, and then know what to do to support the learner, and where to find resources.

We also offer an in-house LNAAT course for those wishing to further develop their understanding of the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Tool.

Workshop level

This is a Level 1 (introductory) workshop. No prior knowledge is required.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is recommended for all educators using the LNAAT, who feel like they could be using it more effectively.

Topics covered

  • How to interpret the reading assessment results.
  • How the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy can inform teaching practice.
  • Links to activities and strategies to promote reading skills.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • interpret a learner assessment report

  • understand how the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy inform next steps

  • source useful resources to support learners in their reading development.

Free self-directed content

This Pathway is currently under development.
