Free, self-directed online courses

Independent learning on Pathways Awarua for users to progress through at their own pace. The Cultural Capability material on Pathways Awarua is free to explore - check it to help you decide which of our course options may work best for you, or just work through the material as you have time.

Register under the ‘Educator’ login on pathwaysawarua.com. Complete the activities as you progress through the Pathway - you can check your answers as you go with the built in Pathway checking tool. Review your score at the end to complete the pathway.

Māori Cultural Coaching – Five courses to choose from

These self-directed courses are designed to support the application of five Māori values which have been adapted to enhance both teaching practice and interpersonal working relationships. Each course contains interactive kōwae (modules) of work to engage in supported by a experienced Māori cultural coach.

Each course can be completed in approximately 10 hours of self-directed online learning. The expected completion time is about 6 weeks with additional time for cultural coaching as required. A reflective practice task is completed at the end of each course that will reward you with a digital badge.

Professional learning and development (PLD) is central to maintaining teaching excellence, equity of learner outcomes, and future readiness in the tertiary sector. 

In response to the evolving needs of Aotearoa New Zealand’s tertiary sector, Ako Aotearoa commissioned a strategic review of professional learning and development (PLD) across the sector. The resulting report, developed through extensive consultation with over 40 tertiary education organisations (TEOs) - offers a timely and comprehensive overview of the most pressing PLD needs, barriers to participation, and future opportunities.
