Course details

These self-directed courses are designed to support the application of five Māori values which have been adapted to enhance both teaching practice and interpersonal working relationships. Each course contains interactive kōwae (modules) of work to engage in supported by a Māori cultural coach, these are:

  • Ako (learn/teach)
  • Manaakitanga (Enhancing the mana of other people, hospitality)
  • Rangatiratanga (Self-empowerment and decision-making)
  • Whanaungatanga (Family-like relationships/ relationship-building)
  • Wairuatanga (Spirituality)

Each course can be completed in approximately 10 hours of self-directed online learning. The expected completion time is about 6 weeks with additional time for cultural coaching as required. A reflective practice task is completed at the end of each course that will reward you with a digital badge.

 

Exclusive access to a Māori cultural coach

A Māori cultural coach is available to you to:

  • Discuss and deepen your cultural understanding, skills and knowledge of the selected Māori cultural value methodology
  • Coach you into applying reflective practice methods that support you in setting and achieving manageable goals tailored to your workplace
  • Guide and mentor you to confidently apply the learning material, enhancing your teaching and work practice in impactful ways.

Coaching availability

Dr Mei Winitana will be available through:

Weekly drop-in sessions: Most Thursdays 12 noon to 1pm during study time to discuss matters about cultural practices and course material. This is also a time to get feedback from other people.

Confidential online meetings: For short, one-on-one discussions, an online meeting can be arranged time permitting.

Dr Mei Winitana

Dr Winitana has extensive experience in tertiary education, in training and development, workshop facilitation and cultural coaching.

As a research coach and project lead, she works in several collaborative projects focusing on literacy, numeracy, and cultural capability for tertiary practitioners and educators. She facilitates and guides co-designing of iwi/tribal training and education plans and cultural strategic planning with organisations.
