‘Tatari’ is a traditional Māori concept and conversational skill meaning ‘to wait’, but carries cultural protocols. Some of these cultural protocols will be shared during the workshop.

The Western educational practice of ‘wait time’, developed by Mary Rowe in the 1970s, considers the length of time people take to process and respond before answering. In this workshop, we will practise this melded ‘tatari’ methodology in a real-time small-group situation.

We will reflect on our experience and consider some ways we can incorporate tatari into our work practice.

This is a Level 1 (introductory) workshop. No prior knowledge is required.
