This report discusses how residential writing retreats support academic staff, particularly those from the institute of technology and polytechnic (ITP) sector, to improve academic writing skills and to progress a writing project towards publication.

Background:
A project completed in 2012, undertaken by Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, that aimed to foster tertiary teaching staff’s motivation, confidence and skill set to write at an academic level through an off-campus, residential writers’ retreat.
