Four final recommendations around the following topics are included:

  • Resourcing and policy
  • Advocacy and sector voice

Background:

In 2025 Ako Aotearoa’s Board led a comprehensive sector consultation to inform its strategic plan.

Focusing on three key areas: Teaching Excellence, Collaboration, and Thought Leadership, the process involved kōrerorero sessions at regional forums, interviews with senior leaders, and a nationwide sector survey.

The summary synthesises common issues and themes identified by staff working at a range of roles and levels across the sector.

Our thanks goes to the 261 people who completed the survey, the 14 strategic leaders we interviewed, and more than 200 people involved in our regional forum kōrerorero sessions.

Report prepared for Ako Aotearoa by Dr Linda Keesing-Styles.
