Foundation education

There are many factors that contribute to adult learner success, yet the instructional expertise of the educator working with them is arguably the most important, particularly for adult learners with higher needs.

Strong literacy and numeracy skills are particularly vital for lifelong learning, yet many adults in Aotearoa face challenges.

If we give learners the skills they need to participate fully in the knowledge-based economy while building resilience to social, economic, and technological changes, they can contribute to a more inclusive, productive society.

This category contains resources on language, literacy and numeracy support, adult and community education, transitions to tertiary education, learner access and pathways; and were designed for educators working in foundation-level education.

A number of language, literacy and numeracy resources formerly hosted by Ako Aotearoa – including the Learning Progressions Resources – have moved to a new home on the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) website.
