Preparedness for sudden change

Lessons from managing large-scale disruption within a Bachelor of Nursing community

This report documents an investigation into the effects of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake on a tertiary learning community.

It shares the process of the initial response to the disaster and meeting safety needs, and the way in which the usual ‘business’ of teaching and learning was suspended, superseded, and reconfigured.

The lessons learned from this experience can assist other New Zealand tertiary education organisations to inform their preparedness for sudden change.
