A key focus of learner agency is to develop a positive learner identity. A learner’s ‘learner identity’ is who they believe they are as a learner, what beliefs they hold about themselves, and the kind of stories they tell about themselves. A positive learner identity is the heart of learner success. Unfortunately, many adults have come to believe they are not smart, unable to learn ‘hard stuff’, and destined to learning failure. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This workshop describes learner identity and provides strategies that educators can use to develop positive identities. It also includes links to supporting resources.
